Stupid me at the time went away to think about it. I always do that and when I go back to buy, the thing I want has gone. But not this time. It was still there. I paid the man my $20 and just as we were leaving his wife said, “Oh no you didn’t buy that heavy old thing did you?”. There was an air of guilt in her voice, like she didn’t want to pass the burden of it’s heaviness on to anyone else. She then proceeded to tell me about how her husband had given it to her as a wedding present 38 years ago, and how she could only use it when he was home ‘cos she couldn’t lift it onto the table. But I love it’s heaviness. It feels sturdy and solid – a bit like an old car. I love that I have a space in the corner of the dining room where I can leave it on the desk and not have to lift it up when I want to use it.
I love how the needle is not centred and sews on the left and I love how the needle is threaded from the side rather than from the front. I love this gorgeous green machine!

And I love it too - is it wrong to love it for all the things you mentioned but more so for its beautiful colour?!!! I really love that colour. It looks so shiny and new. Just gorgeous. Hope you get many more years and creativity out of it.
It is gorgeous! The colour alone would have had me at first sight. I love the story behind it too, not to mention all your lovely creations...
she is stunning, I love old machines!
What a beauty! They certainly don't make them like that anymore.

Beautiful, and so nice to hear a story history behind it. I love the colour

what a beast! love the colour!
It's brilliant and I bet it will last another 40 years too, unlike the new plastic ones.
He is just beautiful I found one for $10.00 this summer a kind of green color and it runs like a top!!
love it! I bought one in exactly the same colour, It is an older model and cost me $140. It does not sew that well. You have inspired me to get it serviced and into action.

Love your "green machine"! And what a cool history it has.
I have an old 1935 bernina that my husband piced up for $5 at a op shop years ago... it still goes :)
Long live vintage machinery!
This machine totally baffles me! For the life of me I cannot get it to do straight stitch. Any advice on what the various buttons do? The machine was donated to our Neighbourhood House, but we haven't been able to use it.
